Jupiter (Guru) transits one sign approximately every 12-13 months, making it the slowest moving of the benefic planets and the planet whose transit most defines the year's dominant themes. In 2026, Jupiter moves through Gemini (until mid-May 2026) and then Cancer (mid-May 2026 through May 2027). When Jupiter transits a sign, the house it occupies from your natal Moon sign becomes activated with Jupiter's themes: wisdom, expansion, opportunity, dharmic alignment, children, teaching, foreign connection, and material growth. The classical guidance: Jupiter's transit through the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th houses from the Moon (called tāra or favourable positions) brings substantial growth. Transit through the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 12th brings effort and sometimes loss. The exact effects depend on Jupiter's natal house, your current Mahādaśā, and your individual chart.

A young woman came to me last March asking why "everyone was talking about Jupiter transit" but she felt nothing was happening for her. The transit had been active for months. Where was the expansion?

I looked at her chart. Jupiter was transiting through Taurus, which was the 12th house from her Cancer Moon. The 12th house transit is one of the most muted Jupiter positions — it works internally, on spiritual and psychological growth, not external visible expansion. Her instinct was correct: nothing dramatic was happening externally. But three months later, she began a meditation practice that profoundly reorganised her inner life. The transit had delivered, just not in the form she expected.

What Jupiter's transit actually does

Jupiter is the karaka (significator) of wisdom, expansion, dharma, teachers, children, wealth, and good fortune. When Jupiter transits a house from the natal Moon, those themes become emphasised in that area of life for the duration of the transit.

Jupiter's transit is not the only factor in any given year — your Mahādaśā, Saturn's transit, and current Sade Sati phase all matter. But of all the transits, Jupiter's movement most defines the dominant year-by-year texture of life.

Where Jupiter sits in 2026

  • January – mid-May 2026: Jupiter in Gemini (Mithuna). Final months of the 2025 Gemini transit.
  • Mid-May 2026 – approx May 2027: Jupiter in Cancer (Karka). Jupiter is exalted in Cancer — its strongest sign. This is a particularly powerful year.

Jupiter exalted in Cancer for a full year is a major astrological event. The themes Cancer represents — emotion, mother, home, public reception, family roots — receive Jupiter's blessing across the year.

What 2026's Jupiter transit means for each Moon sign

Use your Moon sign (rāśi), not your Sun sign. If you do not know your Moon sign, find it from your birth chart.

Aries Moon (Meṣa)

Jupiter transits the 4th house from your Moon — home, mother, vehicles, property. Excellent year for property matters, family stability, and emotional grounding. Possible relocation or home improvement.

Taurus Moon (Vṛṣabha)

Jupiter transits the 3rd house — siblings, courage, communication, short journeys. Effort-intensive year but rewarding. New skills, professional courses, sibling-related events.

Gemini Moon (Mithuna)

Jupiter transits the 2nd house — wealth, family, speech. Major financial expansion possible. New family commitments. Public speaking or teaching opportunities.

Cancer Moon (Karka)

Jupiter transits your 1st house — your own self. This is the strongest possible Jupiter transit, called Guru chandāla if afflicted but otherwise highly favourable. Identity expansion, recognition, spiritual deepening.

Leo Moon (Siṃha)

Jupiter transits the 12th house — losses, foreign lands, spirituality, isolation. Internal transit. Spiritual growth and foreign opportunities common; external visible gains slower.

Virgo Moon (Kanyā)

Jupiter transits the 11th house — gains, friends, large groups, ambitions. One of the most favourable Jupiter transits. Income increase, fulfilment of long-standing desires, expansion of social network.

Libra Moon (Tulā)

Jupiter transits the 10th house — career, status, public reputation. Excellent for career advancement, recognition, leadership opportunities. New job, promotion, business expansion.

Scorpio Moon (Vṛścika)

Jupiter transits the 9th house — dharma, teacher, long journeys, father. One of the most expansive Jupiter transits. Pilgrimage, deepening study, important teacher entering life.

Sagittarius Moon (Dhanu)

Jupiter transits the 8th house — transformation, hidden, in-laws, sudden change. Mixed transit. Internal restructuring more than external gain. Inheritance possible.

Capricorn Moon (Makara)

Jupiter transits the 7th house — marriage, partnerships, business. Excellent for new partnerships, marriage prospects, contractual agreements. Possible marriage year for singles.

Aquarius Moon (Kumbha)

Jupiter transits the 6th house — health, debts, enemies, service. Mixed transit. Health needs attention; debts can be cleared; conflicts may surface and resolve.

Pisces Moon (Mīna)

Jupiter transits the 5th house — children, education, intelligence, creative expression. One of the most favourable Jupiter transits. Children-related happiness, educational success, creative breakthroughs.

How to work with Jupiter's transit

  1. Strengthen Jupiter through observance. Thursday is Jupiter's day. Yellow donations (turmeric, dal, yellow cloth), Jupiter mantras, study of dharmic texts.
  2. Take Jupiter's opportunities seriously. When Jupiter blesses a house, the opportunities it sends are real but require action. Passive receivers receive less.
  3. Do not over-commit during 6th, 8th, 12th house transits. These are internal transits. External commitments made here often unravel.
  4. Cross-check with your individual chart. Generic guidance is a starting point. Your dasha and natal Jupiter modify everything.
